That's my concern too... Mine developed random shutdowns a week ago and it is truly random - it's happened on occasions when I wasn't even pushing the cpu much. I'm afraid the Mac will shutdown as I'm applying the firmware fix...
I have an appt at a genius bar later tonight to send my MacBook in for the random shutdown issue. I'll install this first and see how it goes. And if I brick it... well that's another thing I can tell the Apple employee

Yeah, you keep drinking that Kool-aid buddy. :p ;) :D
Don't get me wrong, I think the new iMac is awesome. I currently use a G4 iMac myself. I'm just making a case for the Conroe minitower, that's all. ;)
No I completely understand. I think it would be a good idea. I just don't see it happening from an Apple point of view.
Love that Kool-aid.....:p

This news is sick! In just 12 hours? DAMN!
I would buy the no new iPhone rumor because OS X Lion is gonna be a game changer from what I've been reading, so they will need to focus and give a 100% to Lion. However, that doesn't mean they won't preview iOS 5, for a fall release :)
if they preview iOS 5 for a fall release. can we safely assume that the iphone 5 will be released along with it?

This is complete bullcrap, people. Over the air updates will come, but over WiFi. Doing this over 3G makes no sense.
DROIDs already do all updates over 3G and VZW likes it that way.
So if VZW is involved they will opt for updates over 3G
This may mean that VZW will be keeping unlimited data on the iphone, and may have changed their minds about ending unlimited data when it comes to the iphone. I think VZW has noticed that having unlimited data makes them more attractive when competing against ATT+T-mobile merger super company.

A child does not naturally grow up to be socially responsible or kind. They naturally grow up to be self-centered and violent unless a parent or authority teaches them otherwise.
As negative as I think religion can be, it has set a code of conduct for people that enables cooperation and empathy for others. Although we don't need religion to teach people morals, we need some agreed upon code of conduct.
You might say that the laws of a country serve that purpose, but they don't. They are simply rules everyone must follow and any despotic ruler can set awful laws that can hurt people. Therefore, the code of conduct has to be separate from the law.
If atheism has any future, its needs some type of unified, agreed upon code.
Oh please. I find nothing positive about scaring children with a bunch of lies to get them to behave.

Does your screw stick out a little bit or is it leveled with the plastic?
It's level in the plastic, and dead center, so it's really hardly noticeable. Not sure why they had to do that though, you'd think they could fasten it the same way they do the old heatsink. Of course, I don't know much about heatsink placement and MB mobo's, so I should just keep my mouth shut I guess.

The key point facilitating foreign intervention in Libya is the fact that one of the factions in this civil war invited us to participate, within certain limitations. This is not an invasion, nor is it unilateral action by any party. The entire affair is predicated on 1) The Libyan opposition's call for help and 2) A UN resolution sanctioning the use of force in Libya, with support froom the Arab league (and in this case NATO as well). The actions retain legitimacy so long as this broad coalition can be maintained. Obama has never suggested that the US should or would be involved except as part of a coalition.
Finally, it is clear that Obama is flouting neither the constitution nor congress by these actions. Any claim to the contrary is either misinformed or disingenuous. That isn't to say I am enthusiastic about the affair, or that I complately agree with the president's war powers as they currently stand.
But Republicans are trying hard to get maximum political mileage out of their criticisms, with the result that they are overstepping the mark.

That said, I wish there were rumors about the white MacBook. I mean, there's been updates this soon before. The current model isn't too bad, though. :)

Useless for me with the iPhone. I charge it via USB anyway, so will just do sync'ing and updates then. Doesn't solve any problems.
With the iPad however, it does help since USB charging is so slow. I don't sync my iPad that often as a result. Although I hope this really means wireless sync'ing, updates are infrequent enough that I don't really care if I have to plug it in.

Upgrading to 2GB from the 2.0Ghz model seems like a waste since you'll have to throw away perfectly good DIMMS. I hate when Apple forces one to upgrade RAM along with higher priced specs.
No need to throw them away. There is a thing called Ebay out there ;)

I don't have a classic, but I'd like to associate myself with the people talking about how hilarious the old thread is. Also, here's a repost of Steve introducing the original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kN0SVBCJqLs
I was 17 in senior in high school when iPod was introduced, though I don't think I was even aware of it. I had a friend that year who had some kind of horrible "mp3 player" and the next year when I moved into my college dorm someone on my floor had an iPod so I played with one for the first time. My first one was the light blue first-gen mini which I bought sometime in 2004 (which still works...I gave it to my mother when I replaced it with an iPhone on launch day 2007). When my crappy Dell laptop that had been my high school graduation present died a few months later, the iPod convinced me to get my first Mac.
I hope they don't discontinue the classic just for the nostalgia factor =)
My first MP3 player was this thing from the link below 20GB for $100 not bad at the time.. but had the weakness of a HD base drive and so when I did cold weather running the thing would freeze at times...
http://forums.redflagdeals.com/tscc-clearance-20-gb-mp4-player-w-1-8-screen-99-a-496414/
Evnetually I upgraded or well got another MP3 player in July 2008 which was back then a Nokia N95 8GB on a HUP of my line... that was much better as it had speakers and was based on Flash Memory...
October rolls around and I buy a 2nd hand Touch Gen 1 32GB for $280 with a Leather Case much better user interface and much higher capacity... (this is my first iPod)
Next year in September 2009 I get the 64GB Touch Gen 3 for much faster ARM Cortex A8 processors and higher capacity... which is my current MP3 player.. though it also serves as a casual gaming device though...
Somewhere along the way I picked up a Shuffle for running only as it was on sale for $35 or so... very cheap investment.
Didn't upgrade to Touch Gen 4... as the capacity didn't increase...and the CPU speed only marginally improved...plus they only kept 256MB of RAM..probably won't upgrade to Touch Gen 5 as I have an iPad 2 which probably has identical hardware to a Touch Gen 5, I promised myself I won't ugrade my MP3 player till they give a capacity increase to 128GB.. or the hardware inside is improved enough to make it worthwhile..
So yeah I think with my Gen 1 32GB as entry into the Apple World.. over time i have acquired more Apple Devices as I now have:
iPod Shuffle
iPod Touch Gen 1 32GB, Gen 3 64GB
MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2009
White WiFi iPad 2 64GB...

U Mad?
I'm not the one that is mad... I am just tired of seeing people on here hoping for a mediocre upgrade... such as no design change and little speed bump...not referring to this thread in particular, but i see it in others..
people have literally admitting to it. I just think we shouldn't be hoping for small advancements in tech

I don't particularly believe this. I don't think Wal-Mart is ever threatened by anything except a union.
Yes they are. They are pulling out of both Germany and South Korea due to the competition.

In China the staff actually got their union.

Manufacturing build wealth, generate revenue and helps a nation defend itself in time of war, we have shipped most of that overseas. So what happens when we have to go to war on a world scale? The U.S has been protecting Taiwan for several years and what have the done for the U.S? Nothing!
If we go to war on a global scale, I wouldn't really worry about the economics. We have been protecting Taiwan-Quemoy-Matsu since 1949 for our own political, military and espionage purposes. They're not required to provide cheap labor in return.

Another mythical creature that should be easily recognizable. Unlike the unicorn, I was able to get into a good position and fit the entire Pegasus in the frame. I'm glad because I really liked the dynamic pose.

According to Yahoo they've been upgraded in regards to CPU (obviously), RAM and HD... so pretty much the same as the MBP's two weeks ago.
Edit: And double layer superdrive too...
Isn't the RAM the same? Unless they are putting single chips in as opposed to double to make store bought upgrades simpler.

No I do not blame Apple for this at all but that doesn't mean it's not frustrating for me. If they need to change their timeline of course they should but i am not sure i can stomach another 6mo to a year on a 3GS.
I have a 3gs still as well (since I never got my white iPhone 4...), and if any of these rumors turn out to be true, my plan is to string along the 3gs until the next iPhone is launched, or until it becomes clear that a hardware update isn't on the horizon.
However, I think it's very unlikely that Apple is going to slip so far with iPhone launching. September has always been the month of iPods. There is no sense in bottlenecking multiple product launches into a single month. If this rumor is true, it would mean that Apple might launch Lion, an iPhone, iPods, and possibly even iOS all in the same month or in close proximity. This goes against Apple's methods in every way. The iOS lineup is very clearly spaced out to take advantage of both the back-to-school season and Christmas.
Launching 3 or 4 products within a few weeks of each other would cause problems for Foxconn, suppliers, shippers, 3rd party retailers, and Apple Stores.
Thank you! Finally some sense. AT&T doesn't even have LTE deployed yet. They say on the official At&t FAQ (http://www.wireless.att.com/answer-center/main.jsp?t=solutionTab&ft=&ps=solutionPanels&locale=en_US&_dyncharset=UTF-8&solutionId=KB115944) that LTE will start being deployed by the middle of 2011. Even if Apple waited until September the LTE would just be getting started and the coverage would be too lacking.
LTE iPhone is in 2012
Indeed. Apple hasn't exactly been too keen to pounce on the bleed edge of technology, especially when it comes to tech that other companies are responsible for managing and deploying.
I could be horribly wrong, of course, but I just think there are too many problems with these September theories to give them much credence. There might be a genuine technical problem that's causing problems, but that's quite different from an intentional desire to hold back the phone to implement a new, barely available, piece of tech.
