Why is this on the front page? It's like saying that WalMart is now selling a junk tablet. Except this article says that Toys R Us and Best Buy is now selling iPads. This isn't front page news.

Sure it is. Best Buy is one of the largest retailers for electronics in US. That Apple can get product into this channel should out to rest some of the supply constraint issues for Apple, and that IS front page worthy news about the short term future of Apple, especially if you own stock in them.

I can't agree with Jobs on this one.

In this era of WTDs (wax-tramsitted diseases), there will be no sharing of my earbuds!

But if the person has a player, Zune or anything, then they also have their OWN earphones :)

Okay, if you're hitting on girls who you believe might possibly be carrying exotic diseases in their ear wax ...

On the other hand, maybe someone should start selling "earbud condoms". Yeah, the sound is muffled and less than satisfying, but at least you won't get a WTD!

So, I had the RSS issue on 10/26, it was the first time, I was installing a Linux OS using Parallels, and off went the machine. I've read so much about this matter that I called Applecare, and after a few minutes on the phone, the proposed resolution was to send it in. The box arrived 10/27, and as of today 10/30 and according to my repair status online, Apple has the PC and it is being worked on.

I find it strange that Apple didn't want me to try the firmware upgrade on 10/26, but it could have been a timing issue related to when the firmware was released. I'll post again when I get the Macbook back. BTW, I did tell Apple that it was in pristine condition, and I expect it to be the same when it is returned.

I'm curious. Anybody know where all that money goes? How much does Apple (the computer company) get vs. music companies vs. the two remaining Beatles? I heard that Michael Jackson owned the rights to a lot of Beatles songs - and now he's gone too. Any place this can be looked at?

what about high end compositing/film editing ? What about the high end graphics market in general ? 3D anyone ? Apple has been very aggressive buying various software companies and technologies in the field, when are they going to deliver a matching workstation ?

Nice quote on Engadget's website: "iWhore, therefore iPod."

I voted Negative because we all know Steve is furious that Microsoft is releasing a wireless MP3 player before Apple. The iP$d needs some serious revamping.

What exactly is 'wireless' about this MP3 player? Sharing songs three times doesn't count in my book. There's no wireless syncing, nor wireless connection to my stereo. What's the big deal again?

Did Apple buy out whatever company made Cover Flow? If not, that's fairly shady of them. They didn't even bother to change the name.

    From Coverflow's website:

"We are pleased to announce that all CoverFlow technology and intellectual property was recently sold to Apple. It has been incorporated into the latest version of iTunes."

This is the classic response of the mac forum member who wants to act too cool to care that someone, in fact, proved them wrong.

The fact that Apple makes a quality product and provides solid customer service has not escaped me. My point was that Apple's practice of charging top dollar for outdated technology and keeping their customers in the dark as to new releases is poor. The only true way to show your disapproval of this practice is by closing your wallet.

If you want to prove me wrong, feel free to cite to a Consumer Reports article which promotes overcharging for older technology or withholding information from consumers which forces them to make purchases without full information about the market ... about any company.

    Check and mate.

Most people (myself included) are quite frustrated that Apple hasn't released the new MBP yet ... which is really frustration at the company for their practices. I think most would appreciate a simple announcement that new MBP's are coming out on a certain date, or a statement that they are working on specific technology, etc.

The delays were actually a good thing for me. Gave me time to "cool off"
I'm with you on every point, except the cooling off period.

Now that Apple's quality control had tanked, I know that there's a great likelihood ill get a bad one and the return game will begin.

Even though I have an Apple store nearby, I buy BTO, so I'm stuck with what has become "The Crap Shoot, Gambling The Apple Way".

Yea ok, keep dreaming fantasy boy. The stories you read online dont actually count as a measure of Apples quality control.

I've never had to return any of a dozen Apple devices.

I suggest a thread on vehicle selection. My new bud, iliketyla, and I are on the case. He, iliketyia, has a scooter and I have a well equipped SUV. My nano is hooked into the sound system his, I suspect, is hooked into ear buds.

So, my dream car is the Audi A8. How about you?

Very likely home platinum, possibly professional if they are buying a expensive high end machine.

MS has spread their lineup to thin, $500 for the ultimate every 5-10 years, I would rather got the apple route, $130 for the entire thing every few years and at least I feel continues advances than one big bang.

I don't recall massive outcry from the devs on those other platforms. Why do you think that is?

So he thinks he's a rockstar programmer and should act like one. I think it's just ridiculous. So in the end the application was given to someone else to continue and nothing changes. So is this 2 seconds taken from his fame or what?

The Apple Application review process is going to be the topic for turmoil now? So after Apple is beat down, who is next to rise and beat on then. It's all becoming really insane to me. It's nothing more than flavour of the month reporting and debating to be all.

I can totally understand his frustration. His job is to make his application better. When there is a big bug that sneaks into the application but isn't caught before the release of the app. You discover it after several people complain (and several in FB terms is probably thousands) but you can fix the problem in an hour. But then you need to wait 2-3 weeks for the application to be approved by apple. In the mean time you can't do jack **** because the app store is completely controlled by Apple. Oh and the user has to deal with the bug until Apple approves the update which at the current rate can be anywhere from a week to three weeks (or more as noted below).

His job is made harder because of Apple's BS. Why would you want your job to be harder than it needs to be? Of course you don't want your job to be harder. So why say that his job should be any different than your own.

Nevermind the other developers out there like Cerulean Studio's who haven't heard a single peep from Apple about their Trillian app for the iPhone for over 3 months. THREE MONTHS.

It's pretty clear that while one developer has the capability to be reassigned to better things, not all developers are. As a result he chose to make his life easier. Others can't, but my guess is that if they had the choice they too would switch away from the App Store.

Look at Steven Frank (from Panic) who tried to ditch the iPhone for philosophical reasons as well. He wasn't able to leave. But my guess is his success rate would be higher now with the newer Android devices (Droid and Droid Eris/Hero).

This isn't just one developer having problems. It's a LOT of big developers who are seeing issues. meanwhile more fart apps, flashlight apps and trash are loaded up on the store for no good reason. But those who actually want to make your life easier are getting nothing but grief (or in the case of Cerulean Studios' NOTHING).

Look at the bigger picture is what I'm saying.

It could have something to do with the fact that Apple actually review the apps to some degree. They review more apps in a week as some of these platforms have available on their phones after a year of trying. Keep in mind that he worked for Facebook and if they are relying on one programmer for this app then thats their failure.

This guy is just trying to draw attention to himself so that whatever he has been working on in his spare time will be noticed more easily. Give it a little time. He will have a start up of his own of some kind and will use this as a soap box to get everyones attention as the guy who Apple made mad because he didn't like the process of writing for an app that wasn't open sourced on a embedded device.

If he was writing for the Wii, Xbox, or even VERIZONS none Andriod phones this process would have been far more restrictive. If Apple allow these cry babies to force them to make there phone less secure the making it a free for all or even changing the policies that clearly make it a superior platform, shame on them. Stick with what works! One developer at one company is not a great loss. There is a price to get to play with the best of anything, if you can't play by the rules you should leave.

More likely editing houses will be angry because of the new price point... $299 is much more affordable and makes rental booths seem unnecessary for many productions. Of course there will still be much more intense productions that will keep them in business for a while still.
FCP already did that at the $999 price point. The drop from $999 for the suite to $299 for just FCP isn't a big deal at all in the professional space. For years the selling point of rental bays is hardware that people can't afford and/or don't want to own and maintain (professional grade monitors, higher end towers, input/output cards, decks, video scopes, etc.,).
