Great to see that Apple can still have a little fun!:p:p:p
I wish I was in there! I would have loved a free iPad 2! I also think the Wife wouldn't complain about a free iPad either...
might return my MBP 17" and say mum said no....
wonder if i can score a freee MBP 17"

AT&T already does ota updates for Android phones.
The update notice tells you that the download will begin once you connect to wifi.
Keeps you from blowing through your data plan.
Makes sense that they would do it for the iPhone too.

I drop calls like mad with AT&T. Wonder if it's about time to head over to Verizon, especially if it starts beating AT&T to the punch with features like these.
It'll be over wifi.
Why would they be negotiating with the big "V" if it were only wifi.

Man, Apple keeps getting lower and lower. First Walmart, now this?
What a shame that a company wants to get their products in the hands of the common folk. How dare they try to sell to anyone but the self-appointed elitist crowd?

Well that's interesting........and wouldn't that be an interesting reason for a smaller screen (to better accommodate "glasses free" 3D.
A lot of smoke here....I couldn't figure out why so many rumors had the iPad 2 at a smaller screen (despite Jobs stance on the issue at iPad 1 launch) and I could see that slipping first, without context to why.
7" iPad is meh.
7" 3D iPad is definitely less meh, but unless they bring more, it won't be enough for me to jump from the 2....check back though in 6 months....
P.s. Apple - I know a "game" system is coming...whether it's this mobile device or a console (ala Apple TV mutant)....bring it!

The only usable iPod is the iPod Touch. The ClickWheel "interface" of the classic is a royal pain in the back when you have to navigate through thousands of titles.
If you use a classic for a long time, you get very used to the click wheel and find navigation easy.
My soon to be sister-in-law has had a classic since the third generation (currently uses a 5th gen and an iPhone). She has got so used to the click wheel, she can move around her library (which maxes out her 80 Gig drive) in seconds. It's amazing to watch!
I guess it is like some people do not like touchscreen phones and would prefer to have a fiddly little keyboard to type messages than a virtual keyboard.
My guess is that the classic will remain, but may get a touch interface, maybe even a virtual click wheel using a little bit of vibration to give some feedback.
There is a chance that the next iPod Touch will have a 128 Gig option, but it will be at a high price. I always think there is a need for a cost effective hard drive based iPod. Even looking at the Keynote where the iPod was announced, SJ compared the price per song and at the time, dividing the purchase price of devices by the number of tracks they held (a bit meaningless, but does prove a point), Flash was at $10 / track and Hard Drive was at $0.30 per track.
Doing those calculations of the various models of Touch and the Classic you get;
(Based on 256 Kbps AAC)
8GB Touch = $0.31 per track
32 GB Touch = $0.08 per track
64 GB Touch = $0.05 per track
Classic = $0.01 per track
So the classic is currently the king of affordable personal music storage, however flash memory prices have fallen faster than super compact hard drive prices so should Apple double the capacity and keep the same price points on the next refresh, you could see Touches at around $0.02 to $0.03, so not much in it!
My last point is that no matter how much storage a device has, there will always be people who will want more. I know people who have music libraries that fill a 2 TB external drive! They have however encoded their old CD's at 512 Kbps, so can use the option to re-encode to 128 Kbps when they Sync. The solution here could be cloud based storage, but you would need a constant connection to the internet which would firstly require every device has more than just WiFi. Probably need the Kindle 3G type of solution. Secondly, it is not always possible to be connected (i.e. on flights, underground metro systems, etc) and thirdly, you'd be draining your battery!

Ironic that FACEBOOK is one of websites that most often CRASHED Safari 4.0.3 OFTEN!
I'm not sure who's to blame for that, Apple or Facebook, but since many other websites don't crash Safari 4.0.3, doesn't this seem like the little stubborn child refusing to do his homework properly?
Btw, I've yet to extensively test Safari 4.0.4 on Facebook, but my past experience was that Facebook has always been buggy on Macs, and every new update to the site always seems to cause a Mac-specific problem.
I have never EVER had Facebook crash Safari. And I use Facebook heavily.
Sounds something is wrong with your setup or you just enjoy spreading FUD.

It’s time to make a premium-priced high-capacity iPod touch instead; maybe 256 for some hair-raising price! Yes, HDs are cheap, but you have to make the transition some time! It could even be thicker if necessary; after all, the Classic is already a separate hardware design to build. (I might have suggested a thicker, hard-disk-based Touch, but I think iOS uses the drive in ways that would bog down hideously on a spinning platter. Hmmm... maybe a hybrid drive?)
It's possible. Small 8GB SSD for the OS and apps, and a hard drive for everything else. Should keep the price down too.
example (http://www.google.com/products/catalog?client=safari&rls=en&q=8gb+flash+drive&oe=UTF-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=8007246213971585357&sa=X&ei=vMyDTZjOFdGI0QHUyuTNCA&ved=0CDwQ8wIwAA#ps-sellers)

People don't care about Flash Player itself, they just want the ability to play video in the browser, which the iPhone is perfectly capable of doing. So instead of lobbying Apple for Flash support we should be lobbying web developers for video tag support.
Developers aren't the problem. A lot of it is Internet Explorer and Microsoft not supporting standards. For one, IE doesn't do much html5. Microsoft will probably never support the svg-based "flash killer" canvas tag. Also, due to bickering on all browser makers, HTML5 doesn't specify a mandatory video format so you have Apple doing mpeg-4, Firefox and friends doing ogg, and IE supporting nothing. And let's not forget users who still run IE6.
Out of the box, most Windows machines don't know how to play MP4 files (unless a user has QuickTime) but most do play flash content. Mac OS X won't play ogg out of the box. So you're left with Flash. As a web developer, Flash is the easiest way to get multimedia, especially video, on your website and looking the same in all browsers. Unless you run a predominately Mac OS X website, HTML5 just isn't ready for prime time yet.

Toys R Us...Apple is SERIOUS about positioning the iPad for gaming and entertainment...maybe even education. I can see an iPad waterproof enclosure in the near future.
Do you know a lot of people that do their gaming and book learnin' in swimming pools?

It's a bit of a cross post, but in the "Waiting for Arrandale" thread a member mentioned going to their local Apple store to buy a MBP and the sales associate mentioned that there was a big box in back and apparently some new SKUs popped up in the system. Thought you might want to know...
So I got sick of waiting on Apple to update the MBP, so I headed down to Delaware to pick one up. While I was there, one of the sales people told me that there was some box in the back, and she really thinks it is the updated ones. She also said about some new SKUs that she saw.
I'm not sure if she knows what she is talking about, but she said she bought a MBP about a month or two ago and is sad she didn't wait because she didn't know they were updating.
It seemed pretty promising, so I figured I'd pass it along.
I have 14 days to return this one and exchange it for a new one if that does happen Tuesday :)

Same discussion all the time.
People that suggest to build plants in the US aren't doing their homework.
Made in USA doesn't mean the quality is better or worse, neither does it mean that Americans would be getting jobs because of it.
Some percentage, but not all!
Quality depends on the manufacturers controls.
Mercedes, Toyota etc. are all building quality products in the US.
There are not even enough workers with low assembly qualifications, so for a plant of that size the jobs would mostly go to immigrants, NOT Americans.
Then there is money a resource that is like a rare element gas. The slightest sign of trouble and it disappears and goes where there is no trouble.
Brazil will make no trouble, neither do other countries.
The government here is too fragmented in it's opinions to unite and pass laws that make production in the US worthwhile.
For that matter none of them have economic backgrounds and just preside over status quo, Republican or Liberal.
About 95% of all the tax money coming in is spent before it even hits and then some.
As the president's friend (an accountant) said in the movie DAVE:
If I would keep my books like they (the government) do , they'd throw me in jail.
It's an international world, intertwined by money.
So, enough with this buy American or MADE IN USA stuff. It's all about money and that will be made wherever it's FREE from too many taxes, restrictions and regulations.
Then Apple should take a hard look a QT.

I've been reading about every other post in this thread and as a long time Beatles fan, wanted to weigh in. I already own the entire Beatles catalog on CD and carry all their releases (minus "Live at the BBC" and a good number of tracks on the Anthologies) around with me on MP3 CD. I used to have it on iPod, but I got a shuffle and gave my 15GB to my wife. So, I have no need to purchase the music. Even if they remastered it, it would still be in 128kb AAC, and that would be a waste.
I would, however, buy a Beatles iPod in a second. Hell, I might even camp out at an Apple store for that. Some people here have said the band is old, and their time is over. I couldn't disagree more. Their music is as fresh as it was in the 60s. They completely changed the face of rock and roll and more importantly, the face of recording. Some of the things the band and George Martin did in the studio are groundbreaking. My list of favorite bands changes on a near daily basis, but the Beatles are always locked in at number 1 on that list. Their influence on modern artists is undeniable. I hear the influences in so many types of music, although that is disappearing with the garbage pawned off on the public as music these days.
I hope these rumors are true because I do think:
1) Apple Computer innovated computing and the music industry with the iPod and iTunes, just as the Beatles did.
2) The ads would be classic
3) The thought of McCartney and Ringo with Steve Jobs on the MacWorld stage makes me tingle with anticipation.
4) Apple Corps was created to breed and inspire creativity, and I think Apple computer does the same thing. It's a match made in heaven.

I mainly hope that they go up to 1GB of RAM with this. Maybe a minor hard-drive upgrade too. Either way, I'm buying.
I hope for this as well. If not, I'll probably still go for it. It's not that much for a harddrive upgrade. As far as gig ram goes, why not? :D
Can anyone think of a reason not to order a C2D the day they come out? Wait to see if there's bugs or something?
Personally, I would find it kind of hard to wait!

I feel bad for all the designers/photographers/filmmakers (part of companys and esp. freelance/new graduates). How the hell will folks be able to afford upgrading every year and/or two years.
Nobody is forcing you to upgrade your OS or your computer every other year. Just because Apple introduces a new upgrade doesn't mean you need to upgrade right away, either. In fact if you're right in the middle of a client job, you'd be a fool to try it.
Even if you lease Photoshop every month—which everybody before me in this thread pointed out it's a crappy deal— if you can't make $35/month in jobs with it, maybe you should a) rethink your business plan/up your prices or b) go into a different line of work. Every trade needs its tools. Photoshop is just another tool.

Personally I'm getting tired of Apple and their color choices. You have to pay more for black? What if you want 8 GB but you don't want black? What then? I'm not liking the approach Apple is taking on the color choices of their products.
Your not paying a premium for the color, you get 8GB. What sucks is you can't get 8GB in colors, lame move on Apple's part with no reason behind it.
