Imagine this, if you will. The Beatles 8 gigabyte (or larger) iPod complete with the entire Beatles library. 3.5" touch screen in a yellow case. Is Valentine's Day far away?
Of course to each his own but I have never gotten why the Beatles are a big deal? I grew up around that era but don't consider them to be super great. Now I am for anything that adds content that people want so Beatles for that reason will be a good thing. I think of them as the original boy band at first that morphed into drugged out folks. Some of the stuff in between is OK.

Anyone thought it could be a 3G upgrade for the iPhone being announced? Last time I checked 3G frequency = 'something in the air';)

I wouldn't go near these machines if I was in the market for a portable...
Well my MB was bought the day they were announced - my local Apple store didn't have them on display yet :) and mine hasn't had the shutdown issue.
I thought this pic Engadget posted is pretty funny:

One of the Mac screen savers will do mosaics of photos from a folder... it's kind of cool to watch them zoom out into a mosaic, but can get hypnotic... ;)
Mine for today... from last summer's archives, since I've been somewhat dormant the last couple of weeks or so...

Nice dog shot. I really like the bokeh and the dog's expression.
Was able to score a virtually unused M8 a few weeks ago . Tried it out in Midtown and Central Park . Gotta get used to using a rangefinder again .

I feel like I have seen this bridge in many a TV Show and Movie... Nice photo.

While I'm happy that this is probably the reason for the increased battery life, I'm concerned about the life span of the screen. How much of a limited span are we talking about?
Edit: according to wikipedia, 5,000 hrs. For comparison, a typical LCD has a life of 50,000 hrs (30,000 hrs for lamp). You may be right about the LCDs (I've not seen this as an issue with the iPods, though), but Apple (and others) calculate Battery lifespan in charge cycles, not hours:
A properly maintained iPod battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity after 400 full charge and discharge cycles. You may choose to replace your battery when it no longer holds sufficient charge to meet your needs.(Link (http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipods.html))
That should give about 8-10 000 hours for the new 24 hour capacity nanos, if my calculations aren't way off... :)
So you'll need to change the battery 3-5 times before you start worrying about the screen... and that is with the newest, and best batteries... older batteries had lower capacity, and thus lifespan....

It sure would suck if you need matching ID and company credentials to get your pass - like they do with CES.
From the FAQ:
You will be required to present your passport or other government-issued photo identification before being admitted to WWDC. Please make sure you bring your identification with you, as you will not be admitted without it.
and
Conference badges are not transferable. The full conference fee will be charged to replace a lost badge.
When you register you get an activation code. I think any other Dev can use it because I purchased mine with my MobileMe account and then activated it with my ADC account. Those accounts are not linked as far as I know.

I hate how you have to download the entire OS every time there's a small update like this. 666MB for a few bug fixes... Also, what's up with the 666MB? Maybe we should stay away from this update guys lol.
Same here! It's an "Apple" product with a "666"MB OS...anyone else thinking that's strangely close to a story with a snake in a garden? Haha. Kinda interesting.

Mass attacks--viruses/worms/etc.--are by far the most likely threat to encounter, but you can also be individually attacked, or tricked by someone's WiFi trap. Mac owners too should keep that in mind. Just because we are so safe from viruses doesn't mean security is ever 100%.
And the people doing this demo seem to have been responsible about it--telling Apple and the other affected companies the details, but NOT telling the public.
So... good catch!

If it doesn't at all compromise the clarity/brightness/color of a (300ppi-ish) high-res display, great. If it does, no thanks.

Not of itself no - but imo a remastered collection will sell millions. How many fans, old and new, will shell out again to hear them?
really? I am skeptical.
Unless like I said a whole package with a very attractive price. Hopefully with a bitrate better than 128.

Exactly. Our economy did not go down the crapper because of lack of manufacturing...but it certainly doesn't help.
How is it that in THIS ECONOMY the US Gov't can't entice Apple/Foxconn/whoever to build here in the US?! Come on...you're telling me that the US Gov't either said a)nope...not gonna budge...our policies/rules are the same or b)here's our best offer (yet it was still much worse than opening in Brazil?!)
$12 Billion is a lot of money for a company opening a manufacturing plant.
As for your tax comment...I've always wondered and firmly believe that 100% of all US citizens should pay the exact same tax rate. Whites don't pay differently than blacks right? Catholics don't pay more than Muslims right? Aren't we all supposed to be "equal" in this nation? Make the darn tax rate something universal like 20% and every SINGLE YEAR we all know exactly what we're paying and the gov't knows exactly how much they're getting. Budget problems and crying will be basically wiped out.
Thank you. Don't forget to add the corporations to that flat tax in addition to eliminating all tax loopholes/breaks. Cutting NPR and Union collective bargaining rights are not going to solve our fiscal mess. If we can't openly discuss the stupid wars then move the spotlight to the Corporatocracy this country has become.

Anyone else think they'll probably rename the iPod touch to simply "iPod"? I think it makes sense, considering almost all of their products feature multi-touch technology at this point.
They won't. You wouldn't know if people talked about iPods in general or iPod touches.

It seems that since Wal-Mart tends to service the very lowest income class in our culture and many of these folks tend to not have computers, and to the extent they do, tend to not have broadband either, it seems there is a degree of mutual exclusivity of markets.
Therefore it seems Wal-Mart is less concerned about the sales themselves as the "benefits" they receive by the physical customer traffic they get from some people going to Wal-Mart to buy intentionally underpriced product so they will shop for other things while there.
I think there may be a flaw in your reasoning. If wal-mart tended to service the very lowest income class, then how does this class propel such a company to become the biggest retailer of just about any consumable good in this country? Wal-mart targets anyone with a buck to spend and will try to sell them anything to help them part with that dollar, be that an iPod shuffle, DVD or box of peanuts.
As for the foot traffic, I doubt that online music sales has any effect on it. If so, how is Walmart still growing?

how do i know if the heat sink on my MacBooks have been replaces or not, they were both costom orderd MBs and i did wait 1 month to get them from apple website
I don't think Apple changed their assembly line until week 35. If the serial number of your Mac is less than 4H635, then I don't think it has the new heatsink.

As for "feminized culture" being associated with Apple products, I doubt it has anything to do with "elitism" per se. Apple tends to give technology a very "feminine" touch - meaning the products tend to have very curvy, attractive, almost sensual lines. These aren't button-festooned franken-devices with missile launchers bolted on. Attractive, minimalist design will always have some association with feminine sensibilities. This is normal.
Thanks for the great chuckle! If well-designed minimalist packaging is feminine then Red Green has the prototype of the "man's" version of an iPad. Hint: It comes in duct tape silver and pre-loaded with "Pull my Finger" and "Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards" apps.

mac is about sharing your creativity with the ones you love. In this era of myspace and mmorpg's do we need a nother form of social interaction with no physical interaction. I still think that istations are a good idea. I would like to be in line at the store and see a girl listening to ipod, and i see her ilisten light on, so I check out her playlist, though this is a lot like myspace, at least you have the ability to walk over and say "hey :) ,i love your station. I see from your event list that the band (...) is playing this fri. would you like to go with me  " Yes stalkers are inevitable, but this could be pretty cool.

No, I can't actually. I'm typing this on a dual 533MHz G4 with 1MB L2 cache per processor - so 2MB total. Same as the Core Duo!
Not really. The CD has some level of cache coherency, this makes it more efficient than separate caches on separate processors.

That will do wonders for my battery life.
But, the further I can get away from physically connecting to a computer for syncing and backing up, the happier I will be. Steps in the right direction.
