Apple phone support seems to have entirely melted down. Hitting the battery recall options only tells you they've discontinued phone support and that you should use the "chat" option on the apple support webpage (which seems to be invisible). Trying to go through iBook support just manages to get me disconnected after a variety of error messages from the phone system

What part of the medical industry is adopting the iPad (besides a medical school trying to appear avant garde) and how? I'm a physician at one of the largest pediatric hospitals in the nation and I usually see more iPads at my local Starbucks than at work. So, please enlighten me. Use specific examples please.
I'm actually typing this on my iPad 2 and find it being sold at a toy store as appropriate. I love it, but let's keep it real here.
I am a Transplant Physician at a University Hospital. I, and several others at my Medical Center use the iPad to access our Electronic Medical Record at the patients bedside, take notes and access reference material.
The most recent issue of the Mayo Alumni Newsletter focussed on that institution's implementation of mobile technology (specifically iPhones & iPads) in delivering more efficient patient care.

Okay, I mostly agree with the comments that this is being overblown because the AE card inside the Mac is not being used. But....
Two things:
1) I re-iterate my comment much earlier that this does point to a long-term problem that has to do with the fact that there is no real non-discoverable mode available in most implementations of the Wi-Fi client driver, as there is with Bluetooth devices and with Wi-Fi host drivers in routers (why? because I'm pretentious! :p ).
2) I don't completely understand this business of an external card being used. Can anyone help me out? So an external card was used in OS X, correct? Don't most OS X external cards that do work, work based off the driver that is shipped with OS X and not with a driver provided separately by the card vendor? Installing drivers in OS X is very rare. Does the unnamed external card use the same OS X driver used for the AE card, or does it use a different one? If it uses the same one, it's not clear that the driver in OS X is completely safe.
Not panicking here...but this seems like an opportunity to improve computer security for us all...

I agree and disagree. It's more than just the cool factor. But that is a big part. Consumers also know that a Apple product is more reliable, better supported and overall less headache than a PC.
So basically, there is a reality to the marketing hype.
Im not sure about the reliability, Apple products have taken a massive down turn in reliability. My old G4 is going strong but everyone I know who has a Mac Book has had to have them repaired by Apple stores. Seems like the dvd drives on them break quite a lot.

Personally I'm getting tired of Apple and their color choices. You have to pay more for black? What if you want 8 GB but you don't want black? What then? I'm not liking the approach Apple is taking on the color choices of their products.
Your not paying a premium for the color, you get 8GB. What sucks is you can't get 8GB in colors, lame move on Apple's part with no reason behind it.

Just got mine - luckily I live down the block from one.
Apparently they said each store only had 2 - got the only 32 GB. Black, not my first choice but thought it would be a while before I got another chance so I got it.
They tried to upsell and bundle stuff with it but I just politely declined. They tried, but I just kept asking if I can buy the iPad by itself and they finally relented. Did take a smart cover though.

That's not how I understood what he said at all,he put "professional" in quotes because he was being sarcastic,to me he meant that if someone is worried about the fact that more people can now operate a software because it's simpler to use/more affordable then they must not be a real pro because a real pro wouldn't worry about such things, they know that they have the creativity and experience that sets them appart.
My iPhone battery died at MoMA after I read some of these replies, so I just walked 2 blocks to the 5th Ave Apple Store to reply, just to see that you laid it out just fine. Thank You.

I hate how you have to download the entire OS every time there's a small update like this. 666MB for a few bug fixes... Also, what's up with the 666MB? Maybe we should stay away from this update guys lol.
Same here! It's an "Apple" product with a "666"MB OS...anyone else thinking that's strangely close to a story with a snake in a garden? Haha. Kinda interesting.

I was really thinking about an iMac, but I'm considering a Sony Vaio laptop with an IPS monitor from a 3rd party. I'll definitely wait to see what Apple comes out with this week, though.
Whenever anyone posts on here that they're thinking of going Windows, a lot of people either shout TROLL! or say: fine, goodbye.
I still feel like it's a shame to leave Macs behind. Still, again I have to say that Windows 7 offers a lot more to the Mac-learned creative community than any other version from Microsoft.**
**Other than maybe Windows 2000 pro in its heyday... nice solid system that got out of your way.
Really? I have Windows 7 on desktop and find it to be the same crap as Vista but with a new theme pack. Other than the slightly different appearance it seams essentially exactly the same (ie the worst Windows since M.E.).

That thread Spook posted is hilarious! Man we're so many people 100% wrong with their opinions... the iPod owns the world now! I wasn't a fan of Apple back when the iPod was introduced, so I didn't have any expectations. I didn't even know it was coming. But now I sit here with both my 3G 30GB and 5G 60GB iPods on my desk. :D

I love the idea. A yellow 80GB iPod with the full Beatles collection (or black with the yellow dial). A huge score for Apple in the war with MS.
I'd never buy any Beatles music myself for personal reasons, but, I'd still be glad to see Apple score this coup.
(on the idea of the custom iPod, why don't they still offer the U2 version with the discount on the full U2 collection?...)

Schools, churches, and libraries all have computers and books. There are several nutritional programs for the poor. most of the time they are abused, and it is spent on garbage, or sold for $.50 on the dollar.
I hardly think you know what percentage of the time these programs are abused.
Are these programs sometimes abused? Certainly and it's a problem but unless you have numbers don't claim that these social programs are largely in vain.

It's interesting that in a previous post, an Apple Store employee mentions the Best Buy ads having been set in place before the Japan Earthquake.
I believe it. These ad circulars, not just for Best Buy, are created and sometimes even printed weeks and months in advance.
